The performers Marga Alfeirão (left) and Mariana Benenge (right) on a stage bathed in purple-coloured light. Both sit on the floor and wear cropped, belly-baring tops and light-coloured sports trousers. Marga wears her dark curly hair loose, her knees and palms resting on the floor. She looks in Mariana's direction. Mariana wears her dark curly hair down and sits casually next to her with her leg bent. She is watching Mariana.
Photo from the production LOUNGE: Two women appear to be walking close to each other. They touch each other lightly with their hands on their hips and thighs. They are wearing cut-up clothes with large holes in them and do not look at each other. The scene appears very intimate and is bathed in dim yellowish light.

Mariana lies on her back on the floor and looks up at Marga, who is sitting. Marga lets a liquid flow from her mouth into Mariana's mouth. They both have dark curly hair.

LOUNGE

Marga Alfeirão

Lissabon & Berlin

While an exhausting hustle and bustle reigns outside, Lounge invites you to an in-between space in the Ballhof Zwei auditorium that is simultaneously private and public. In a soft veil of fog and light, two female bodies come together in a sensual duet defined by antitheses such as movement and rest and voluptuous giving and taking. Together, the dancers move through states of active and passive recovery, using each other’s presence to dive deeper into themselves and the vibe. In her ‘lesbian lap dance duet’, the Portuguese choreographer Marga Alfeirão, whose work is strongly influenced by the dances and sounds of the African diaspora, rethinks restfulness  lounging  in the context of female autonomy and eroticism. Her choreography, as political as it is sensual, has won her together with Myriam Lucas, Mariana Benenge and Shaka Lion the 2023 ImPulsTanz – Young Choreographers’ Award and was selected for the Tanzplattform Deutschland (German Dance Platform) 2024.

Marga Alfeirão uses media to carve safe-spaces for the exploration of intimacy and sexuality through dance and performance. Heavily influenced by dance-genres and sound textures from the african diaspora disseminated through Lisbon’s social tissue, she attempts an active claim of womanhood, making room for lesbian sensualities. She is active in the portuguese Ballroom scene as a founding member of the Casa das Musas. Graduated from HZT’s BA in dance and choreography in Berlin, she initiated Lapdances to Ringtones and Lullabies, a research on erotics and rest.
