VAGABUNDUS

Idio Chichava

The power of VAGABUNDUS unfolds when the 13 dancers enter the sparse stage area in colourful, shimmering shorts and raise their voices. The floor vibrates under the stories of departures, searches and transitions. Alternating between ecstatic moments of unity and sudden separation, their individual and collective memories, dreams and hopes unfold. Inspired by the migratory movements and ritual dances of the Makondé people living in Mozambique and its neighbouring countries, Idio Chichava weaves dance, voice and symbolism into powerful, melodic narratives about the many faces of migration in VAGABUNDUS.

Following the performance on 2 FEB, there will be an audience discussion in Spoken English.
