FOR REAL #2: Trazos

Mónica García Vicente & Irving Villegas

Choreographer Mónica García Vicente and photographer Irving Villegas embark on an installative-choreographic search for traces of the experiences, dreams and difficulties of dance makers with an international history who have shaped and continue to shape Hanover's cultural scene. They ask: Are we still the same after all this time in a country that is not our own? Or have we become something new through the fusion of different cultures, our ideas and our creativity? With the use of dance, projected bodies, audio recordings and photographs, they create a visually gripping work that puts their ambivalent emotional worlds into focus.

The festival format FOR REAL creates encounters between local dance makers and artists who have a short rehearsal period to challenge their practices and try out new formats outside their usual production logic.

Mónica García Vicente works as a choreographer for contemporary dance in Hanover. She performs her dance productions at the Pavillon, the Kesselhaus and the Eisfabrik, among others. After working as a dancer in Spain, Italy, Austria, the Netherlands, France and Switzerland, Mónica García Vicente was a member of the Hanover State Opera from 2006 to 2017. She complements her choreographic concept with improvisation and workshops in her project "Connection Dance Center" (CDC). The CDC offers qualified training for ambitious amateur dancers and provides insights into the work of professional dancers and the path to becoming one.

Irving Villegas is a Mexican-German storyteller/photographer who lives in Hanover. His work has been published in renowned media such as The New York Times, The Guardian or Der Spiegel and has received several awards. His work has been exhibited at major events such as the Derby Photo Festival (UK), the Kolga Tbilisi Photo Festival and the PhotOn Festival in Valencia (Spain) and was shown as a projection at Slideluck Cortona On the Move in Italy and Encontros da Imagem in Portugal. His photographic work is characterised by a precise documentary approach that reflects social and cultural themes in a poetic and artistic way.
